Polynucleotide injections – PhilArt
Polynucleotides injections are filtered, ultra-purified and sterilised natural fractions derived from fish DNA. They work as a nourishing medicine for the skin, primarily aimed at firing up your fibroblasts (your body’s healing response) to improve skin texture, tone and hydration. PhilArt Hair revitalises hair follicles, promoting and accelerating hair growth.
At Roseneath in Guernsey, Polynucleotide injections are administered by registered medical professionals with many years of experience with injectable procedures.
What can it treat?
Polynucleotides are the ‘buzz’ word in aesthetics, but they are not a new discovery. Before being used for cosmetic reasons, they have been used since the 1950s to successfully treat issues such as burns, osteoarthritis and chronic wounds. The primary function is rejuvenation and anti-inflammatory, so they can be used for a variety of skin conditions such as scarring, stretch marks, rosacea and aging skin. Common areas treated include:
• Eye area, safe to use on the delicate skin right up to the border of the eye.
• Whole face (can use PhilArt Next to combine Polynucleotides with Hyaluronic acid)
• Neck – especially good for crepey skin, with loss of elasticity.
• Decollete.
• Hands.
• Hair loss either as standalone treatment or combined with PRP or pre / post hair transplantation.
A major benefit of polynucleotides is that they can also improve hyperpigmentation. Combining this with their effect on improving skin integrity makes it an incredibly powerful treatment for dark circles, tired eyes or crepey skin of the upper eyelid.
How does it work?
Polynucleotides work by triggering the body’s natural inflammatory response through activation of fibroblast cells. They are clinically proven to stimulate the biological regeneration of the skin’s architecture, including collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid, blood vessels, pigment and supporting fat cells. A clinical study demonstrated a 47% increase in collagen and 53% increase in epidermal (top layer of the skin) thickness.
Polynucleotides enhance the skin’s natural ability to retain moisture, resulting in a more hydrated, youthful appearance, helping to create a natural ‘glow’. They help scavenge free radicals and improving cellular growth and hydration, making this an especially good treatment for improving tissue elasticity and tightening crepey skin, as well as helping the texture and tone of the skin.
Am I suitable?
At Roseneath Skin Clinic in Guernsey, we start with in-depth consultation to ascertain your medical history and suitability, ensure you are fully informed and to help us understand the results you are looking for. Most men and women are suitable for treatment. However, this treatment is not suitable for those with an acute infection, currently pregnant or breastfeeding, or with an underlying auto-immune disease. Polynucleotides work really well if you are looking to treat existing signs of aging with natural results, or whether you are looking to prevent them.
Polynucleotides are derived from freshwater fish intended for human consumption. This production facility provides exception control and safety of its products, using ultra-purification technology. 70 years of research and hundreds of research studies support the safety and efficacy of polynucleotides. However, this is not a suitable treatment for those with a fish allergy. They can be used as a stand-alone treatment or combined with other popular treatments such as dermal fillers or chemical peels.
Does it hurt?
The practitioners at Roseneath Skin Clinic are registered medical professionals with years of experience of giving injections. The treatment is extremely well tolerated, but a local anaesthetic cream will be applied prior to treatment to aid comfort. PhilArt hair for hair restoration can be a little more uncomfortable, but generally tolerated well.
Immediately after treatment there may be some redness, swelling and, as with any injection, a bruise or haematoma can rarely occur. These should subside by themselves within a few days. PhilArt is a skin booster with an excellent safety record with very few reported risks or side effects.
What should I expect after treatment?
- Some patients can have some minor bruising or redness around the injection sites, but this resolves very quickly.
- Swelling is common after treatment, which is a normal part of the inflammatory process. This is normally in the form of little ‘bumps’ and generally resolves within a day.
- Do not apply cosmetics to the area for 12 hours and avoid direct heat (sauna, etc) and aerobic exercise for 24 hours.
The number of treatments needed varies according to the individual. On average expect to have 3 treatments, 5 for more severe aging, leaving 3-4 weeks between each session.
It will take a few weeks before you can perceive the results, sometimes the results can take up to 3 months to be fully apparent. Generally, most patients have some maintenance treatments once or twice a year. Treatments to improve acne scarring, stretch marks or other scars are likely to require further sessions, 5-6 treatments are common. However, yearly top ups are rarely required in these cases.
