Botulinum A (commonly known as Botox®)
At Roseneath in Guernsey, Botox injections are only administered by our experienced medical professionals – a registered dentist or aesthetic nurse.
Botox®, or Botulinum, is a naturally occurring purified protein used for safe and effective wrinkle relaxation treatments; highly trusted and used in aesthetic treatments since 2002 it is consistently the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure.
Roseneath can provide muscle relaxing injections in Guernsey for:
- The reduction and prevention of lines and wrinkles
- Treatment of excessive sweating from the underarms, soles of feet and palms of the hands
- Migraines
- Jaw grinding (TMJ)
- Non-surgical brow or neck lift
Did you know? Botulinum is used to treat some medical conditions in much higher doses than those used in cosmetic procedures without causing significant side effects.
What can it treat?
Many people want to target certain aspects of ageing skin, but want a subtle effect, rather than it being obvious they have ‘had something done’. That’s why we pride ourselves on providing an honest consultation process and strive for a natural, healthy result for our patients. The level of muscle relaxation can be tailored to each individual – ranging from a dramatic skin smoothing effect, so a subtle softening, maintaining expression movement.
Areas of the face that are typically treated with anti-aging injections include:
- Horizontal brow lines
- Crow’s feet or ‘laughter lines’
- Glabellar lines or ‘frown lines’ between the eyebrows
- Nasalis lines or ‘bunny lines’ either side or on the bridge of the nose
- Eyebrow lift – can relax the muscles that pull the brow line down and prevent drooping eyebrows that are starting to become ‘hooded’ – gives an overall more ‘awake’ look.
- Necklines, often termed ‘nefertiti neck lift’
- ‘Golf-ball chin’ or gummy smile
Botulinum toxin is also commonly used to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) of the armpits, palms of the hands and soles of the feet.
Migraines, tension headaches and jaw-grinding (or TMJ) can also be very effectively treated, and your suitability will be assessed during a pre-treatment consultation.
How does it work?
Over time, repeated facial muscle contractions, loss of collagen, environmental influences and lifestyle factors can lead to lines and wrinkles.
When the muscles in our face move, a message is sent from the brain, via nerves, to the muscles, instructing them to contract. Botulinum injections are a natural protein that works by interrupting this process.
Micro doses of Botox are injected just underneath the skin to temporarily reduce muscle activity, allowing these muscles to relax, which softens the appearance wrinkles to create smoother, younger-looking skin.
The Botulinum protein only produces its effects on the muscles to which it is specifically administered, so there will be no effects on other parts of the body.
Roseneath Skin Clinic can administer Botulinum injections for excessive sweating by temporarily paralysing specifically targeted sweat glands.
Migraines can also be very effectively treated by administering injections to specific muscles in the face, and sometimes the neck. When treating jaw grinding, teeth clenching or TMJ the mandibular muscle is targeted to reduce the ferocity of this movement. This has the benefit of reducing tension headaches originating from this area, jaw pain, damage to teeth and by ‘de-bulking’ these outer cheek muscles, can having a facial slimming effect.
Am I suitable?
Anti-ageing injections remain one of the most popular aesthetic procedures worldwide as they are very safe, suitable for most people, work very quickly and produce visible results.
At Roseneath Skin Clinic in Guernsey, we start with in-depth consultation to ascertain your medical history and suitability, ensure you are fully informed and to help us understand the results you are looking for.
Virtually all men and women are suitable for the various Botox® treatments.
Does it hurt?
The practitioners at Roseneath Skin Clinic are registered medical professionals with years of experience of giving injections.
Most people tolerate the treatment very well, and we can use topical anaesthetic cream if needed. To ensure treatment is as painless as possible we use extremely fine needles, and place injections very precisely to avoid any potential side effects.
What should I expect after treatment?
- Most people have minimal visible signs immediately after treatment and usually go straight back to work.
- Some patients can have some minor bruising or redness around the injection sites, but this resolves very quickly.
- Results can be seen a few days after treatment, with the full effect apparent at around two weeks. We also invite you back to the clinic after two weeks to make sure you are happy with everything and to assess the results.
Muscle relaxation typically last three to five months before a repeat treatment is needed to maintain results. In some people after several treatments, the effects can last longer, and for certain treatments it can be many months before repeat treatments are required.
Treatment for excessive sweating can last for nine to 12 months, results are usually seen after a few days and most people have little or no after-effects, occasionally some minor temporary itching.
