Micro-Needling
Micro-needling in Guernsey, also known as skin roller, skin needling or Dermaroller®, is an effective treatment to erase imperfections from the skin.
This is a mechanical method to stimulate the body to rebuild its own collagen for fresher, more even-toned skin.
It is reportedly popular with celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston, Angelina Jolie and Victoria Beckham for its anti-aging benefits.
What can it treat?
Micro-needling is very popular because it is so versatile. Common skin complaints it is used for include:
- Acne scarring
- Lines and wrinkles
- Age spots, sun damage and pigmentation
- Enlarged pores
- Poor texture and skin tone
- To fortify a thin, reactive skin
- To revitalise tired, lack-lustre skin
How does it work?
Tiny punctures are made in the skin with a sterile, CE marked medical handheld device. Various sizes of needle can be used from 0.25mm for very mild treatments, and at Roseneath we can use up to 3mm designed for medical professionals only to give dramatic results for common skin concerns from acne scarring and stretch-marks, to fine lines and wrinkles.
The thousands of minute perforations to the skin stimulate the body to produce collagen, elastin and water-retaining hyaluronic acid – proteins that rebuild the skin, keeping it supple and youthful-looking.
Am I suitable?
Virtually everyone is suitable for treatment, but a full medical history will be taken at your consultation to assess your suitability.
Does it hurt?
Treatment usually takes approximately 30 minutes and you may experience sensations from mild pressure to a prickling sensation.
Treatment is usually very well tolerated, it can be mildly uncomfortable at times but we can use a topical anaesthetic cream to help with this.
Discomfort depends on the needle depth, area being treated and desired results, we will adjust treatment carefully in line with your tolerance.
What should I expect after treatment?
Micro-needling treatments carried out by professionals are very safe procedures and carry minimal risk of adverse reactions.
- After treatment your skin will appear flushed and feel warm, like very mild sunburn and you may experience mild itching.
- In the days following treatment your skin may feel tight and occasionally have light flaking for two to three days.
- Effects should be apparent within four to eight weeks, although collagen and elastin production can continue for up to 12 months after treatment, giving a gradual, marked improvement to the surface of the skin.
